FTTF Wrap Up

Sunday, September 13 2015 - Peoria First to the Finish Invitational

Boys
The Lakes Boys team competed at the First to the Finish Invitational in Peoria this weekend. While the final place was the middle of the pack (28/59), the efforts certainly were not. Of those who raced, 30/33 ran their fastest race this season with 22 of those runners setting lifetime personal bests! In comparison to last year, the top 5 averaged 30 seconds faster and finished 21 places higher (49/63 in 2014)!

Jeremy Wallace led the charge, clocking 16:07 for 3 miles; moving him up two spots to #5 in Lakes history. Giving the Lakes a solid 1-2 punch was Jacob Hubbard in a personal best time of 16:28.9. Kael Moran moved up to #12 all-time with a 16:51.2. Jeffrey Meverden stepped into the #4 spot today with a 20 second personal best of 17:36.1.

The "Freshmen Five" stepped on to the varsity stage in an invite for the first time and did not disappoint. Leading the way & finishing the scoring for Lakes was Owen Wenberg with a 17:49.6 (#7 FR). Following him in the chute was Borzick (#9 FR), Halberg (#10 FR), Erwin (#11 FR), & Schommer (#12 FR). These 5 freshmen displayed classic pack running as they were separated by only 17 seconds! The rest of the Freshmen class took a cue from their teammates in setting their own lifetime personal bests.

As was the theme of the day, many runners took nice chunks off of their lifetime personal bests, none more than Brian Quid. Quid, ran 6 MINUTES faster than he ever has! The Eagles will look to build on their successful weekend this upcoming week on Tuesday at Lake Forest and Saturday at Warren.

Girls
"Saturday the girls cross country team arrived in Peoria ready to make the most of an opportunity to run on the state championship course. They remained focused as they lined up with 640 other runners in the massive 58 team field. The first turn is very sharp and tricky to navigate, but they did this well and were established in good positions at the half mile point. Everyone held their positions and all runners earned personal bests or season bests.
Kortney Schardt led the first half of the race, fended off a surge by the leaders, and cruised through the two mile mark. She then fell back a bit to finish a courageous race and medal in 4th place. Megan Knuettel was also a medalist with her 1845 performance, which puts her among the fastest freshman all time. The third finisher was Simone Lippmann 62nd 1906. The fourth finisher was
Rae Dwyer 97th 1940. The fifth finisher was Hannah Grant in 2058. The team finished 10th and beat several state ranked teams despite not having two varsity runners in the lineup."
